Accra, March 5, GNA - Three suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the Legon District Police Command led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Richmond Bonsu at Adjiringanor in Accra. The suspected robbers identified as Rabbi Asamoah, 24, William Ayine, 27, and Godwin Nyamallor, 29, have been handed over to the Regional Police Headquarters for further interrogation.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, ASP Bonsu said last week, the Legon Police had a tip-off that a number of suspected armed robbers were hiding in a kiosk at Adjiringanor. He then led a team that took cover in the area around 0200 last Thursday and arrested the three suspected armed robbers who possessed a black travelling bag containing seven mobile phones and two talismans.
During initial interrogation Nyamallor claimed he was a spiritualist and was at the time of their arrest invoking the spirits to assist Ayine spiritually to obtain an Italian visa to travel while Asamoah claimed he was a phone repairer. In a separate interview with GNA, Deputy Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bright Oduro said two armed robbery cases were reported last month by the residents of Adjiringanor at East Legon in which local and foreign currencies, mobile phones and electronic gadgets were stolen.
Meanwhile, one of the victims has identified Asamoah as one of the suspected robbers who attacked them that night. According to ACP Oduro, there would be an identification parade of suspected armed robbers on Tuesday at the Regional Police Headquarters and called on the general public who have been victims of recent armed robberies in the Greater Accra Region to assist the police to deal with those found culpable.
