Accra, Jan. 8, GNA - The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana, Legon on Thursday called on the Government to tackle as a matter of urgency the problem of deteriorating infrastructure at the University.
A statement signed by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, SRC Press Secretary said: "For a University that has a capacity for 3,000 students to now be hosting 23,000 students without and infrastructural expansion is to the SRC the crucial issue that is supposed to be tackled."
It said it was an open secret that facilities have not increased and a few were in sordid and dilapidated state.
The statement was issued in reaction to the content of the book "Good Governance Through Democracy," which was launched by Nana Akomea, Minister of Information, on Wednesday at the People's Assembly held at the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra.
The statement referred to page 79 of the Book, and said the increase of 32.5 per cent in admission to the universities could not be regarded as an achievement.
The statement invited the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu to visit the University to ascertain its quagmire and horrible state.
It also appealed to President John Agyekum Kufuor to implement the recommendations of the Presidential Educational Review Committee.
