Leklebi Health Centre Receives Major Facelift

The Leklebi Health Centre in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region has received a major face-lift after the African Challenge, a non-for-profit organisation and its development partners carried out key works on the otherwise dilapidated facility .

The project, which was undertaken with financial support of GH¢109,000 (46,122 Euros) from Action Medeor, include the re-wiring and refixing of electrical fittings, replacement of roof and ceilings, sinking of a new borehole and mechanizing it, provision of sanitation facilities and additional furniture.

Handing over the facility to the Volta Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (VRGHS) at a brief ceremony, Mr. John Adza, Executive Director of African Challenge, said the gesture was the organisation’s social responsibility towards supporting government’s efforts in bringing quality healthcare delivery to the doorsteps of rural communities.

He expressed the optimism that the GHS would post the requisite health staff to man the centre now that the Centre could boast of uninterrupted water supply, electricity and conducive environment.

Mr. Adza said his outfit had in the recent past discharged similar charity works by donating hospital equipment, furniture, sanitation facility, provision of water and electricity to the Ve CHAD Clinic, Klefe Clinic and Leklebi health centre in the Hohoe and Ho Municipalities.

Mr Robert Adatsi, Deputy Director of Clinical Care of RGHS, on behalf of the Directorate commended their benefactor for the support and urged others to emulate their gesture.

He entreated the authorities to begin the processes to document the parcel of land bequeathed to them by the Chiefs and Elders as a safe-net for future development plans.

Mr. Adatsi urged the administrators of the Centre to approve the retention of a percentage of their internally-generated funds towards maintaining the facility to prolong its lifespan.

He reminded health staff of the importance of continuing to give positive accounts of their human relations to clients at all times.

Dr. Margaret Kweku, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, said the Assembly will continue to forge working relations with its social partners to bring quality healthcare delivery to all irrespective of location, ethnicity or religious affiliation.

She said with the commencement of its composite budget, adequate funding would be made available to extend the basic necessities to all.

Ms Margaret Yaodie, in-charge of the Centre said malaria, diarrhoea and cough topped the list of illnesses in the out-patient department and with a weekly frequency of 100 patronage, a lie-in ward, clinical staff and staff accommodation were needed urgently.

Togbuiga Agboka VI, Paramount Chief of Leklebi Traditional Area who presided at the function, said the Centre was established through a self-help communal initiative in 1975 on a 12-acre land but expressed disappointment that the facility failed to attract the needed attention for expansion.

He was however hopeful that the centre could be adopted for upgrading with the creation of the new Afadzato district.**
