Let’s collaborate to fight terrorism - Mahama to France

President John Mahama has called for a greater collaboration between Ghana and France in the fight against terrorism.

According to the President, the terrorism menace can only be defeated when the world works together in unison.

Speaking at the Flagstaff House during a visit of the Prime Minister of France Manuel Valls, President Mahama commended France for the role it plays in the terrorism fight, especially in Africa.

“I want to express our appreciation to France for the strong collaboration we have in the fight against terrorism. We worked together in Mali under AFISMA to help that country when it was invaded by terrorist elements,” he said.

President Mahama added the rise in activities of terrorists on the continent means no country is immune to such attacks.

“Following that there’ve been terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso, in Cote D’Ivoire, and what it means is that none of the countries in the sub-region is safe from terrorist attacks.”

He also commensurated with the people of France for the recent terrorist attacks the country suffered.

“We know that France has also come under similar attack and so West Africa and Ghana stand in solidarity with you and we want to work together to see how we can overcome this terrorist menace.

“It’s only when we work together and share information and intelligence that as the civilized world we can defeat these people who want to destroy our way of life,” Mahama emphasized.

The Prime Minister Valls pledged more support for Ghana not just in the fight against terrorism, but in the area of business as well.

Just this week Boko Haram of Nigeria launched attacks in that country killing several people and injuring others. African countries like Kenya and Tunisia have also not been spared their fair share of these attacks.
