Ghanaians must use the Easter period to “reflect” as well as “commit to peace” as the nation gears up for a crucial election, a parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said.

Obuobia Darko-Opoku, who is eyeing the Weija-Gbawe seat come the 2016 parliamentary elections in November, said a peaceful atmosphere is needed between now and the time the polls will be conducted, adding the festivities must be used to “preach peace.”

“As we prepare for this year’s election, I wish to urge all of you to continue to preach peace and support a peaceful electioneering campaign,” Darko-Opoku, who is also the deputy Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Board, said in an Easter Message via Facebook.

“Let us together as people of the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Ghana as a whole uphold, celebrate and share the values of Easter which are peace, compassion, forgiveness, kindness, hard work and responsibility,” the former broadcaster added.

“I am committed to a peaceful election,” the philanthropist assured.

Meanwhile, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the wife of the main opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo, has also stressed the essence of peace during this period and beyond.

“As we celebrate redemption at God’s hand let’s not forget to live in peace with each other and be grateful and thank God for the gift of Grace through the resurrection of his son,” Mrs. Akufo-Addo said in a statement.
