Let's fight cross-boarder crime together - IGP

Accra, Feb. 8 GNA - Nana Owusu Nsiah, Inspector General of Police (IGP), on Tuesday underscored the need for the Police in the West African Sub-Region to come together to fight cross-boarder crime. He said no country in the Sub-Region could fight cross-boarder crimes alone if not assisted by its neighbours. Nana Owusu-Nsiah made the statement when a three-member Police delegation from Sierra Leone led by Mrs Kadi Fakondi, Assistant Inspector General of Police in-Charge of Family Support Unit, called on him at his office in Accra.

The delegation, which has been in the country for three days, is studying the functions of the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Police (WAJU) to build the capacity of the Sierra Leone Police Family Support Unit.

The IGP also said the choice by the delegation to come to a sister West African country for the course instead of going abroad showed a clear indication of the confidence that they had in the Ghana Police Service.

He said since the inception of WAJU in 1998 it had been working very hard to champion the cause of women and children who were considered vulnerable in society.

He said the visit would also go a long way to impact positively on the activities of WAJU since both countries could exchange ideas. Mrs Fakondi said the visit would continue to strengthen the cordial relations between the two countries as well as help in training personnel of the Sierra Leone Family Support Unit.

She said the Sierra Leone Police Force was also being restructured to meet modern policing as well as bring in efficient management systems to weed out corrupt and indiscipline officers. Mrs Elizabeth Dassah, WAJU Director, was among Service Commanders present at the meeting.
