Let’s lend regular support to GPS - Asiedu

Mr Samuel Asiedu, Managing Director (MD) of FirstBanC Financial Services, has underscored the need for public-spirited individuals, philanthropists and corporate institutions, to make regular donations to the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS) to ensure the proper upkeep of inmates at the various prisons throughout the country.

Mr Asiedu made the call when he presented assorted items worth over Five Thousand Ghana Cedis to the female inmates of the Nsawam Prisons as part of FirstBanC’s corporate social responsibility to help cater for the needs of the inmates.

He said the donation was in line with the company’s core values of ‘first in humanity,’ which he said, was highly upheld in all its endeavours.

The items included medical supplies, toiletries, used clothing and provisions.

Mr Asiedu reiterated FirstBanC’s recognition of the role of the GPS as a corrective institution, and said it therefore required regular support from corporate bodies and civil society organizations to complement government’s efforts to adequately manage the Service.

He explained that the decision to support the female inmates at the Nsawam Prisons was influenced by worrying reports of poor conditions in prisons throughout the country, which he said, make female inmates more than vulnerable.

Chief Superintendent Sophia Osei Bonsu, officer-in-charge, received the items on behalf of the Prisons, and expressed management’s profound gratitude to FirstBanC for its kind and wonderful gesture, describing the donation as ‘timely and essential to boost their depleting stocks.

C/Supt Osei-Bonsu said agricultural materials and equipment for training were the prisons’ priorities, and urged other corporate organisations to emulate the example of FirstBanC, by ‘coming over to Macedonia, to support Nsawam Prisons, to enable it live up to expectation.’
