An audio of a man who identifies as one of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency chairpersons in Effutu has leaked, with him allegedly admonishing members of the party to sabotage the manifesto launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He is heard in the audio appealing to residents, particularly the youth, to mobilise themselves and disrupt the launch of the manifesto.
He indicated in the audio that the incumbent MP for the area, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has plans to create some jobs for 2,000 young people because he is now the boss of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG); hence, the youth should mobilise themselves and disrupt the exercise.
"I am extending my greetings to everyone on this platform, especially assembly members, coordinators, polling station executives, women organizers, and constituency executives. I am the chairman speaking. I came to you this morning with an appeal. The NDC’s planned manifesto launch does not scare us, but there is a reason why they have decided to launch it in Simpa. Let us mobilise ourselves and disrupt the launch. Let us engage ourselves and mobilise, especially the youth. I am pleading with you to do this for the sake of Alexander Afenyo-Markin."
"We have to disrupt this launch. They don’t have the numbers, and it would be our own people who would be attending. Mobilise the youth and convince them that the MP will employ 2,000 of them because he is currently the ECG boss. All those who have completed high school, those who went to technical school, and those who pursued electrical-related courses convince all of them to join, let them participate, and let cameras capture them."
"Create fear among the NDC at the event and let them know the NDC does not have the numbers. I will particularly appeal to the women organisers of the NPP to engage the youth from now until Saturday. Ask them to be in their NPP apparel on Saturday," he said in the alleged audio.
Meanwhile, a former parliamentary candidate for Effutu on the ticket of the NDC, Victor Yankson, has warned the NPP to rescind the decision or they will regret their action.
He allegedly identified the voice on the tape as Joseph Nicholas Bondzie.
He revealed that when Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang came to the area for her tour, the MP led a group of people to disrupt the tour of the running mate.
He said if the NDC has been admonished to sign a peace pact and yet members of the NPP are trying to bring war to the doorstep of the NDC, then the party will not sign it.
He noted that they don’t know the form in which the plotted sabotage will take place; hence, they would have to put in measures to address the issue. For him, "we are ready for them. If they observe peace, we will observe peace with them. If they bring violence, we will meet them with violence. No one will be going to court this time. We will settle the score on the field, so they should come; we are ready for them,’’ he warned.
He said, "If we’ve allowed them to do their launch in peace and they want to wage war, they should come. If Ghana belongs to them and we are not part of it, But if we are part of it, they should observe our rights, and we will accordingly observe their rights. We will not attack them. We will not be the first to cast a stone, but they should watch out. If they come, we are ready for them," he warned.
