Lets preserve our history by writing - Kufuor

Ex–President John Agyekum Kufuor has entreated Ghanaians to adopt the spirit of writing as a vehicle for selling stories to the outside world and preserve the country's history for posterity.

He said it was sad that a lot of Ghanaians were reluctant to write because of fear of criticisms, which he said, did not augur well in the preservation of history.

Ex- President Kufuor said this during the launch of a book on the history of Opoku Ware School entitled “Swords and Crosses – The Story of Opoku Ware School”.

The book chronicles the history of OWASS from 1952 to 2012 and was written by Rodney Tuffour -Kwarteng, an old student.

He said writing a book about a great school like OWASS would not only be interesting to read but would also give people an insight on how the school came into being.

He urged Ghanaians especially old students of the school to patronise the book as proceeds from the sale would be used to support developmental projects in the school.

Mr Rodney-Tuffour –Kwarteng, said the 323 paged -book discussed how the school was established by the Catholic Missionaries in 1952.

“The book also enumerates the lows and high moments that one would wish to forget about and those that you would always relish as students of the school over the years”, he said.

He said the book also mentioned various governments and their policies and the effects they had on OWASS such as the Acheampong’s “Operation Feed Yourself”, which pushed the students to start farming to feed themselves, an action he said, saved the school some money.
