Another Lawmaker Is Dead
River-Gee County District #3 Representative and the last surviving member of the People’s Redemption Council (PRC), that staged a military coup against the government of the late Liberian President William R. Tolbert, leading to the latter’s death, is dead.
Representative Albert Toe, according to family sources, died at Legon Hospital in Accra, Ghana, in the evening hours of on Wednesday evening.
Reports gathered by the Daily Observer indicate that the River Gee lawmaker died of heart attack.
As a result of the death of the River-Gee lawmaker regular session was yesterday suspended by House Speaker Alex Tyler for next Tuesday.
Speaking yesterday to reporters, House Speaker Tyler described the death of Rep. Toe as a major blow to the House, adding that he was of great help to the workings of the Legislature.
“We are shocked to hear such news. Representative Toe was here before we left for the Easter break when he asked for an excuse to seek medical attention in Ghana. Today is a sad day for the Legislature,” Speaker Tyler noted.
The Speaker Tyler along with other members of the House yesterday visited the home of the late lawmaker and expressed their condolence to the bereaved pledging their fullest support in ensuring that their collogue gets a befitting burial.
The late Toe died at the age of 56 and leaves to mourn seven biological children and other family members both in and out of Liberia.
Meanwhile, reports say plans are underway for the body to be brought to the country by this weekend.
The death of the River-Gee County lawmaker brings to eight the total number of deaths at the Legislature in less than six years.
Recently, Montserrado County lost its junior senator, the late Hannah Brent, who died on her medical bed in Monrovia.
