The over 200 Cuba-trained Ghanaian doctors who arrived in the country recently will sit their licensure exams next month in order to enable them practice in Ghana.

The Medical and Dental Council emphasizes passing the exams is by law the prerequisite for absorption into the health system.

This is despite the agitation among a group of Cuba-trained Ghanaian doctors demanding the scrapping of the mandatory examination before their integration into the Ghana Health Service.

Meanwhile there has been earlier concerns by the minority in parliament over a decision to hold on to the certificates of the trained doctors with suspicions that the doctors may not be posted for political reasons.

But the Scholarship secretariat has defended the move insisting it was a standard practice for students who are trained on government scholarship outside the country.

Kaspafmonline.com sources say the students would largely opt for internships to rather get familiarized with the system.
