The National Youth Coordinator, of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has opined the decision by President Akufo-Addo to lift the lockdown could mean he has run out of ideas.

To him, the president and his team may be out of ideas hence the decision to lift the lockdown.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the young politician admonished Ghanaians not to depend on the government so much.

He further suggested the decision could also point to the fact that it was lifted for a parochial interest of the president and his administration.

However, "if the decision is genuine and came from the president’s heart; if he really took the decision with Ghanaians at heart then we have to support him,” he added.

Divine Nkrumah stressed the need for Ghanaians to take the social distancing measures seriously to prevent the spread of the virus.

He slammed politicians who he claimed have taken advantage of the outbreak for their selfish political interest.

The lockdown restrictions announced three weeks ago have been lifted.

Ban on public gatherings, including religious activities, parties, beaches, clubs are still in force across the country.

Schools and universities also remain closed.

Delivering his 7th address on measures taken by his administration to fight the disease, Akufo-Addo said: “We will continue to monitor closely events in some hotspots…”

“Whenever the situation so warrants, a community in which the virus is identified as becoming prevalent will be locked down, until there is a clear understanding of the trajectory of the virus that will allow us to contain it,” he said.
