Thunder accompanied by lightening on Tuesday evening destroyed the power station supplying electricity to most parts of the Sissala East District of the Upper West Region.
The situation has compelled officials of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to shutdown the main transmitter plunging the entire area into darkness at night.
A number of computers at the office close to the VRA substation it is gathered were also destroyed.
An officer of one of the security services had everything in his house burnt. A television technician revealed that several television sets he was keeping have all been affected.
Tuesday’s incident has affected signals of various radio and television stations to the area.
It would be recalled that a similar incident a fortnight ago resulted in the death of 14 cattle in Welembelle in the Sissala East district after which the meteorological predicted severe lightning activities that will likely come with the rains this year.
