Kwadwo Nkansah 'LilWin' has said “I’m seen as a comedian so I am not taken seriously” by the Ghana Music Awards board and organisers.

Additionally, “they assume I already have a reputable name and so there is no need to add to it,” he said.

The actor, producer and music artiste spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM.

Noting that it is not so in America, he asserted he had “back-to-back hits” with “all the stars” and so “I should have long been nominated or won in categories like New Artiste of the Year and Discovery of the Year”.

“I’m, however, not taken seriously, so I’m focused on doing what I can,” he added.

On why he has not confronted the GMAs over the issue, he said: “The trophy comes with no money” and his priority is to “get booked to perform at various shows”.

“If the metal was added to some GHS50,000 or GHS100,000,” he stressed he would take the snub seriously. “We’re moving forward and playing plenty of shows.”

“Ghana has only five musicians who can rock a stage, and I am one of them,” LilWin asserted.

He said some musicians are uninteresting on stage “because they are often unserious,” unlike him who is energised “when I see the crowd. I want to do something spectacular that will excite them and have them look forward to another of my performances”.

The Kumawood star conceded he first became known for his movies but “when I ventured into music, I took it seriously – God has blessed me”.

The Ghana Music Awards, in its 25th year, is headline-sponsored by Telecel Ghana, and organised by Charterhouse Ghana.
