Lion International donates desks, offers health screenings to New Juaben SHS

Lion International, the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, in collaboration with its affiliated members, including Ubuntu Diaspora Branch, Accra Ubuntu LC, Accra Ultimate LC, Tema Greenwich LC, Accra Ubuntu Leo Club, Accra Ultimate Leo Club, and Koforidua U-Tech Leo Club has donated 16 school desks to New Juaben Senior High School.

This donation aims to address the school’s infrastructure challenges, particularly the shortage of desks, which has impacted teaching and learning.

In addition to the donation, Lion International also provided free health screenings for students and staff as part of its ongoing commitment to youth empowerment, cancer awareness, environmental conservation, and poverty eradication.

The initiative was part of the school’s Homecoming celebration, held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, in the Eastern Region.

Leading the donation was Lion Asempa, the Charter President of Tema Greenwich LC and a past District Officer.

The chairperson for the activity, Lion Maduku from the Accra Ubuntu Diaspora Branch Club, worked closely with the team to ensure the success of the event. Speaking to the media, Mrs. Lion Diane Zukowski, the Diaspora Branch Liaison and a representative of the organization highlighted the importance of kindness in all aspects of life.

“Our hallmark is that kindness matters. We bring resources, skills, and knowledge together to support underserved communities and empower them to overcome challenges,” she explained.

“Our global initiatives, including Childhood Cancer awareness, Environment, Vision, Diabetes awareness Hunger relief, Youth Empowerment, Disaster relief and Humanitarian efforts focus on the health and well-being of young people

Mrs. Lion Diane Zukowski disclosed that the total value of the desks and health screening services amounted to 25,000 cedis, a contribution made possible with the support of the Ubuntu Diaspora Branch club and other Lions clubs in District 418 Ghana.

“We selected the school desks as a priority because the school authorities identified this as their most pressing need after we conducted background checks,” she added.

Several alumni of New Juaben Senior High School are members of Lion International, including the charter President of the Ubuntu Diaspora Branch Club, a branch of Accra Ubuntu Lions Club, who played a key role in coordinating this initiative and rallying support from other clubs.

The Headmistress of New Juaben Senior High School, Miss Georgina Oti Frimpong, expressed her gratitude for the donation.

“We deeply appreciate the efforts of Lion International and its affiliated clubs.

“These desks will go a long way in improving teaching and learning, and we will ensure they are put to good use,” she said.

The Lion International initiative not only underscores its commitment to education but also reflects the organization’s mission to empower communities through meaningful service and sustainable support.
