About 137 markets within the Greater Accra Region will be affected by the disinfection exercise to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus in Ghana today Monday, March 23, 2020.
This exercise is part of a larger plan to disinfect public spaces to control the spread of COVID-19 which had infected 24 people in the country, with one death bringing the number of active cases of the virus to 23.
A statement from the Local Government Ministry reads, "the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council is to coordinate and ensure compliance with the above directive by MMDAs in the region."
The decision to disinfect the market according to the sector Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama, was arrived at in consultation with the market women.
The market will, however, be open to the public on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
