Lockdown lifted: Disregard for social distancing as passengers struggle for trotro at Kasoa

It appears life is gradually coming back to normal barely 24 hours after President Akufo-Addo lifted the restriction of movement in some parts of the country.

According to the President, the decision was influenced by several factors including Ghana’s ability to undertake aggressive contact tracing, an enhanced capacity to test, expansion of the number of treatment and isolation centres as well as the impact of the virus on the poor and vulnerable in the affected areas.

He, however, urged the populace to adhere strictly to the health protocols including social distancing, wearing of protective facemasks and other PPEs.

The situation was very different when GhanaWeb hit the streets to capture how people are reacting to the lift on the ban.

An interesting sight was when passengers were scuffling to board a ‘trotro’ in plain defiance of the social distancing directive, which is still in place.

The incident which happened at Kasoa is an example of a direct opposite of what is required to prevent the spread of the global pandemic, the Coronavirus.

Although public buses have been directed to observe spacing by reducing the number of passengers they take, the sight captured by GhanaWeb cameras told an entirely different story.



After imposing a three-week ban on movement in Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Obuasi, many Ghanaians were shocked after the President announced its suspension in his 7th address to the nation on updates of the fast-spreading Coronavirus.

Ghana’s confirmed COVID-19 cases currently stand at 1042 with 9 deaths and 99 recoveries.
