Accra, Oct. 27, GNA - Emmanuel Inkoom, a logistic officer, who designed his own receipts and stamps to dupe the company he was working for of $100,000, had appeared before a circuit court in Accra on Wednesday.

The accused, who was charged with forgery and stealing contrary to section 159 and amended section 124 of Act 29/60, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted 150,000 Ghana cedis bail with two sureties and one to be justified. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kofi Blagodzi told the court that the complainant is the Human Resource Manager of Geodril Ghana Limited.

He said the company opened a branch at Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso where the accused was in-charge of logistics, purchase and disbursement of cash.

DSP Blagodzi said in May this year, the operations of the accused were audited and it came to light that he had designed his own receipt books and stamps.

The prosecution said the accused prepared receipts and stamped them with his own stamps covering various sums of money purported to have been received by the company's agent in Ouagadougou. The court heard that the accused pocketed the money claiming that it had been received by the clearing agent in Ouagadougou. DSP Blagodzi said it was discovered during the audit that the invoices and receipts as well as the stamps did not originate from the agent. 26/Oct/2011
