Sidii Abubakar Musah has been elected as the new National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, beating incumbent, Ludwig Hlodze in the party’s national executive election held in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

Musah polled 385 of total votes cast, while his main contender, Hlodze, who has been the Youth Organiser since 2010 came second with 196 votes.

Another contestant, Prince Kassim polled 7 votes. Others include Abubakar Mutiu Rahman, 89 votes; Paa Kwesi, 4 votes; and Marcus Garvin Adampah, who was dropped from the race.

Hlodze took over from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South and Minister for Employment and Labour relations, Haruna Iddrissu.

In his victory speech, Musah said: “I am humbled by the prudent decision of our dear party delegates. You spoke the voice of the people. You spoke the voice of God. Thank you for believing in my ability to lead you into the unknown future. And I thank and praise the almighty Allah for making our dream come true.”

“To my fellow contenders, I say well done for a good sportsmanship. The elections are over. We are no longer opponents. We are now one family with a common goal. Let's work together as a team to achieve that common goal.

“I am a man of my word. Therefore, let everybody, every NDC youth, home and abroad, begin to bring their ideas. Let us start planning immediately. We don't only need plan A. We also need plan B, plan C to plan Z.

"We have no time to waste but an election to win in 2016. The NDC and His Excellency John Dramani Mahama need our energy and our talents unconditionally.”

The NDC will be going to congress on December 20, 2014 to elect the rest of its national executives.
