The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) under its hire purchase vehicle loan facility has assisted six commercial drivers in the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Assembly of the Upper East Region with vehicles to improve their business operations.

The vehicles which included two buses and four saloon cars were presented to beneficiaries Sunday as part of MASLOC efforts to provide assistance for the growth and expansion of Ghanaian businesses as well as the empowerment of the youth to enhance job and wealth creation.

At a ceremony to hand over the vehicles to beneficiaries, the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Joseph Kofi Adda, who played a major role in the acquisition of the vehicles, said the hard work and commitment of the beneficiary drivers to improve their businesses urged him to offer his support for the procurement.

He added that government under the stewardship of President Akufo Addo and the MASLOC program is committed to giving all business owners in the area the needed push to grow their operations to create wealth and better lives.

Mr. Adda who was himself excited seeing the beams of smiles on the faces of the assisted drivers, encouraged them to use the vehicles to work hard to improve their lives, families and effect positive change to benefit other people.

He noted that the operations of the vehicles will greatly help address some of the challenges with transportation within the area and the region as a whole.

The Credit Officer in charge of the Kasena-Nankana Municipal and West District Assemblies, Mercy Atuley, explained that the vehicle loan facility under MASLOC is a credit service which gives assistance to private and commercial individuals to own vehicles on hire purchase.

She said the scheme is targeted at empowering individuals to own their vehicles with an initial deposit and later payment of the loan facility with monthly installment within a four-year period.

She further mentioned that the credit service is also aimed at giving unemployed professional drivers, especially the youth, who belong to Taxis and Drivers’ unions but do not have the financial muscle to buy their own vehicles, the opportunity to acquire their own after “working and paying”.

She encouraged the youth to take advantage of the credit service since it is a better and cheaper way to own a vehicle as compared to other offers from private companies and individuals.

Alhaji Salifu Sando, a retired driver and one of the beneficiaries who spoke on their behalf, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Adda for his endless assistance. He also lauded MASLOC and the Nana Addo government for the scheme and said the vehicles will go a long way to help them make a living for themselves and families.
