MCE Goes Mad

THE Municipal Chief Executive of Asunafo North in the Brong Ahafo region, Mohammed Kwaku Doku, on Thursday caused a stir at a Goaso-based radio station after he attempted to vent his spleen at an NPP activist at the studio.

Mr. Doku, who is the NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, reportedly entered Success FM studios when the newspaper review was being done and angrily reacted to some allegations levelled against him and the assembly.

In reacting to Dr Tony Aidoo’s displeasure about some MMDAs’s poor performance, the MCE allegedly rained insults at the NPP panellist and when the latter responded to the insults, Mr Doku went haywire and swore heaven and earth to deal drastically with the NPP man.

The NPP activist, Crentsil Nyarko, had to be locked up in the studios for some time to avert any bloodshed as the MCE had called in his supporters as back-up.

According to the host of the programme, Omono Asamoah, who confirmed the incident to Daily Guide, he switched off the microphones of both gentlemen and went on a commercial break in order to separate the two.

The station’s General Manager, Asafo Adjei, however said the incident was like the usual heckling on radio.

He said they initially wanted to call the MCE on air to respond to the issues but they couldn’t get him. However, during the latter part of the programme, the MCE voluntarily joined in.

A regular listener of the station, Mary Asare, also told DAILY GUIDE that there was a discussion on the performance of the assembly as contained in Dr Tony Aidoo’s assessment.

She said the host made frantic efforts to call the MCE to respond to claims that the Asunafo North assembly was one of the assemblies that had performed poorly. This assessment was done by the Head of Policy Evaluation and Monitoring-unit at the Presidency.

She said all of a sudden, they heard the MCE speaking angrily, hurling insults at the NPP panellist. She therefore rushed to the station to find out what was actually going on. When she got to the entrance of the station, she saw the MCE and some NDC boys who wanted to vent their spleen at the NPP activist.

According to Mary, she overheard the MCE warning the NPP man who is based in Sunyani not to step foot at Goaso again or else he would have himself to be blamed.

When Daily Guide contacted the MCE on phone, he was reluctant to talk.

He however warned that he would deal drastically with the paper if it published anything scandalous about him. “Go ahead and publish your story. Paint it as you want to paint it and at the right time I will respond appropriately,” he retorted, adding, “I know you DAILY GUIDE people; I have one suit pending against you people and I will put it up there if you publish any scandalous thing against me.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Nyarko has confirmed to Daily Guide that the worst would have happened to him if the staff of the radio station had not intervened.

He alleged that the MCE called in about six NDC thugs to attack him and as a result the station officials had to lock him up at the studio until the MCE and his men left the scene.
