The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Agona Swedru in the Central Region, Mr. Samuel Oppong is reported to have stated that 'wee' smoking is neither evil nor sin.
Rather, it only becomes an issue when one misuses it, that when one draws cutlass, clubs and other offensive weapons to chase people, that it becomes a problem.
This way, one exposes himself. As such, anyone who wants to take the stuff, should do it in moderation.
The MCE was reported to have given this advice to a group of young men during his house-to-house campaign at a suburb in Agona Swedru, on October 7, 2012.
He is also reported to have rebuked the paramount chief of Agona Swedru, Nana Kwabena Botwe, on what he termed as his sweeping statement on the involvement of the youth in drugs, and the lukewarm attitude of the police to apprehend them, and thus called for their massive transfer.
This paper gathered that after this sermon, some of the astounded youth were heard openly condemning the MCE's gospel.
What marveled them most was the fact that one Dadzie, a former Assemblyman, who was present and sat through the sermon, took it in without raising any objection.
Mr. Oppong was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West in 1996 but was defeated in 2000.
He is currently the head of the computer placement system of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
He went for the NDC primaries and lost to one Obeng Inkoom. He was allegedly rewarded with the MCE position to ensure victory for the party in the constituency, which is now occupied by the NPP.
When contacted, he fell into tantrums and charged this reporter to do whatever he wanted to do. The MCE further threatened to go after this reporter if he goes ahead with the publication.
Admitting however that he said that, he sought to know the motive of this reporter and insisted that his comment was fair.
