MCF Scholars’ beneficiaries urged to be development oriented

Professor William Otoo Ellis, former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has advised alumni of the Mastercard Foundation (MCF) Scholars’ Programme to be development-oriented.

He said the beneficiaries of the programme had been trained and equipped with the relevant knowledge and skills needed to impact positively on the society.

The scholars, according to Prof. Ellis, were an asset to the nation, for which reason they ought to justify the huge investment made in them by coming out with transformational projects and programmes in order to alleviate the plight of the people.

Prof. Ellis, who is also Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Programme, was inaugurating the MCF Alumni Association at a ceremony in Kumasi.

The first batch of 43 beneficiaries of the Programme would be passing out in July, this year.

Prof. Ellis pointed out that the Programme since its inception had worked assiduously to enrol about 700 brilliant-but-needy students to pursue educational careers in various fields.

He lauded the students for justifying the confidence reposed in them, saying academic records of the majority of the beneficiaries indicated that they fell within the First Class Division.

Prof. Gariba Akanwariwiak, Dean of Students, KNUST, called on the scholars to demonstrate good values as they were employed to work by corporate organizations after their graduation.
