Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra Region have been urged to re-position themselves to offer pragmatic support to government to meet the demands of the citizenry.

Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, called for a new and innovative local government development thinking, due to the considerable change in national, international, socio-economic, political, technical and administrative dimensions.

He encouraged workers to be hardworking, productive and punctual at work.

Nii Afotey-Agbo gave the advice during a day's working visit to the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA).

"I will like to sound a word of caution to those of you who would not pull your weight for us to meet the targets. We will not tolerate and compromise on anything that has the tendency to derail our efforts at achieving our targets", he stated.

He urged the staff and Assembly members to show keen interest in the activities of the Assembly and also participate fully in general assembly and sub-committee meetings to ensure that the right decisions are taken to promote the well being of the people.

He asked the Assembly to educate landowners and chiefs to desist from the multiple sales of lands.

He indicated that it was also important to streamline the issuance of building permits to make it less cumbersome to obtain.

Mr Afotey-Agbo implored assemblies to ensure the protection of the land resources entrusted into their care and guarantee the availability of such heritage for the productive deployment of the youth in their areas.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, during the visit, commissioned an official duty post for the KKDA Coordinating Director, a school building each at Kpone and Saki as well as a public toilet facility at Gbetseley all in the district.
