He said government’s introduction of the Single Window System in compliance with the World Trade Organization Facilitation Agreement, the implementation of “Paperless System” and the on-going construction four container berths to handle bigger vessels are all aimed at enhancing efficiency at the seaports. The Transport Minister expressed regret at increasing road transport fatalities due to reckless driving and failure by road users to strictly comply with road traffic regulations. He therefore urged organizers of GLOTA to institute an award for the “Best Road Safety Regulation and Management Institution” to aid in curbing road accidents and enhancing road safety in the country.
The President of Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), Mr. Kwabena Ofosu Appiah, appealed to relevant sector Ministries including Transport, Aviation, Trade and Industry, Railway Development and Roads and Highways as well as relevant corporate agencies to adopt the awards and offer the needed backing for its successful organization.
He said the logistics and transport sector is a key contributor to Ghana’s economic growth, and as such rewarding efforts of players within the sector would boost the morale of workers to maximize their output for higher growth.
The Chairman of GLOTA Organizing Committee, Mr. Don Obilor, urged eligible industry players to apply when entries for the awards contest are open through advertisement in the media as well as GLOTA website at www.glota-awards.com .
