Yendi, 17 Oct.,
Yendi, 17 Oct., Mr. Malik Alhassan Yakubu, Member of Parliament for Yendi has said that the break into the arms store of the Custom, Excise and Preventive service (CEPS) in Yendi and the theft of weapons is a serious matter which must raise concern. This is because of the progress made in the search for lasting peace after the ethnic conflict in the area. In a press statement issued at Yendi yesterday, he said, it is heartening that the security agencies appreciate the gravity of the situation and are leaving no stone unturned in their investigations to track down the culprits. Mr. Yakubu who is also a member of the parliamentary committee on defence and interior said it is important that all should co-operate with the security agencies in their work. He said it would not do any good to the efforts of the security agencies and the fragile peace if unguarded and "irresponsible statements are made adding that the statement attributed to a group calling itself Konkomba development association was most unfortunate, unnecessary and provocative to the people of the area. Mr. Yakubu explained that the said publication in the dailies and carried by radio savanna the local FM station in Tamale could have diversionary effect and mislead investigations as it attempted to imply that the burglary was committed by a particular ethnic group.
