MP Slams Kufuor Over Women Appointments

The NDC MP for Gomoa West, Ama Benyiwa-Doe has expressed disappointment at recent nominations leading to the appointment of eleven all male Ministers. She told JOY FM after a unilateral approval of the vetting committee’s report by Parliament on Thursday that President’s Kufuor’s claim to involve women in his administration had not reflected in his appointments so far.

Madam Benyiwa-Doe noted that women’s contribution to the NPP’s victory in the 2000 election was strong but regretted that they have been sidelined. ''President Kufuor talked so much about women during the campaign. He made so much noise about setting up a women’s Ministry. And I thought that they will go ahead to appoint women to sensitive positions because we all know how women can serve''.

Mrs Benyiwa Doe said there are about five qualified NPP women Parliamentarians who could be elevated to the position of Ministers.
