MP appeals to Ministry to rehabilitate Nkoranza roads

Nkoranza, Nov 10, GNA - Mr Hayford Francis Amoako, MP for Nkoranza, has bemoaned the bad state of roads in the constituency and said this has resulted in fatal road accidents and also rendered foodstuffs locked up at the producing centres.

Speaking to Ghana Agency he appealed to the ministries of Roads and Highways and Food and Agriculture to step in to save the situation. ''The situation has made our farmers to become disheartened as they have found it impossible to convey their foodstuffs to the marketing centres and this is greatly affecting revenue generation in the area.''

The MP said the rehabilitation of some of the roads was placed under the Village Infrastructure Project in 2000 "but up till now nothing has been done about it" and appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to investigate to ensure that the roads are rehabilitated. He mentioned the Manso-Hawara, Akumsa-Domase-Nkwabeng and Brahoho-Akuma as roads the rains had rendered virtually impassable.

The NDC MP noted that he initiated the rehabilitation of some of the roads in 2000 and personally provided funds for their levelling "but up till now nothing has been done again to put them in better shape". Mr Amoako expressed regret that portions of some of the roads in the constituency had gradually become death traps as speeding vehicles killed about eight persons between 2000 and 2003.

He said the residents of Koforidua threatened to erect ramps on the portion of road that runs through the town but had to stop because of a plea from the Ghana Highways Authority.

Mr Amoako said there are too many dangerous curves on the Nkoranza-Ejura road under construction and called on the contractor, PW Ghanem, "to straighten up some of the curves.
