Gomoa Ekwamkrom, C/R, Oct 13, GNA - Mr Richmond Sam Quarm, MP for Gomoa East, has called for the equitable distribution of the District Assembly Common Fund.

He said Gomoa East had been deprived of development projects under the Fund, which has improvised the people.

Mr Quarm was addressing activists of the NPP at Gomoa Ekwamkrom near Agona Swedru after a two-week tour of the 80 communities in the constituency to acquaint himself with problems confronting the electorate.

The MP who won the seat in the April this year through a bye-election following the death of Mr Emmanuel Acheampong in a motor accident, said last year the Gomoa District Assembly received 2.1 billion cedis but his constituency was not adequately taken care of. The meeting was nearly marred when the news got round that Ms Joyce Aidoo, District Chief Executive, could not turn up. Mr Quarm noted that this year an amount of 5.7 billion cedis had been received but only 300 million cedis had been used for projects at Gomoa East.

The MP urged Assembly Members from the constituency to ensure that the Assembly approves 4.5 billion cedis for the constituency. He asked them not to plan as individuals, but as a team to ensure the total development of the constituency.

Mr Quarm said he identified many problems during the tour and gave the assurance that the outcome of the meeting would be sent to Regional headquarters at Cape Coast and Accra for redress.

He called for the reactivation of the Pomadze Poultry Farm at Gomoa Pomadze, which has been on the divestiture list for years to create employment for the youth.

Mr Kofi Mensah, Constituency Chairman, asked the polling agents of the party to adopt strategies to ensure victory for the NPP in the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections. He also called on them to intensify their membership drive to win more supporters and to bury their differences to defeat the NDC and the other parties.
