The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Dr. Alex Ababio today complained about excessive noise in the North Labone residential area and urged Parliament to help bring the offending parties to book. Dr. Ababio, who is also a resident of Labone, mentioned Hotel Wangara and the heavy traffic in the area as some of the noise polluters. Mr Charles Omar Nyanor, NPP-Upper Denkyira, however suggested that persons who find such noise irritating and a nuisance could sue the polluters for remedies or report them to the police, adding that there is no reason for him to come to parliament to seek remedies. Mr. Nyanor stated that noise is a relative phenomenon and depends on ones mental attitude to it. Squadron Leader Clend Sowu, MP for Anlo, who chairs the house committee on Environment, Science and Technology, said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the sector ministry should investigate the Wangara issue and other such cases in the residential areas. He said the location of hotels and other commercial activities in residential areas is due to the frequent re-zoning of places without reference to district authorities. He urged the EPA to also monitor the noise levels in the residential areas in recent times when people are using generators to light up his houses.
