Sawla(NR), Oct.10, GNA - Mr Donald Dary Soditey, Member of Parliament for Sawla/Tuna/Kalba constituency has advised leaders of political parties in the constituency not to use ethnicity and tribalism during campaign to sustain peace and unity among the people.
He said some politicians particularly members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) played on the tribal card to convey their messages to win votes during the campaign in the September 26 District Level Elections in the constituency.
Mr Soditey told the GNA in an interview at Sawla that the practice when not stopped, had the tendency of creating tribal tension that could degenerate into chaos and confusion during the 2008 campaign to the detriment of development.
He said what the country needed was development, unity and understanding between brethren, therefore, it was wrong for brothers and sisters to condemn themselves in the name of politics saying, "Before politics we were united in one community called Ghana with the same purpose."
"As politicians we are all guilty of the practice and we have to think of peace, unity, understanding and development first and our political parties last so that Ghana and our communities would remain a better place for us to live," he added.
Mr Soditey predicted massive victory for NDC in 2008, indicating that Ghanaians had seen NDC's eight-year performance and that at the end of the NPP's eight years the electorate would make a preferred choice.
He claimed that the Sawla/Tuna/Kalba constituency was a no go area for the NPP due to the development projects that the NDC gave to the people therefore, the party would continue to win in the constituency.
