MP denies threat allegation

Hohoe (V/R), July 6, GNA - Mr Prince James Hayibor, Member of Parliament (MP) for Hohoe North, has denied an alleged threat on the life of a vendor, Mr Anthony Abibu at Hohoe.

Mr Abibu briefing Journalists said, Mr Hayibor angrily confronted him last Monday for allegedly insulting him as "stupid PM" at a Constituency Forum programme on Saturday.

He said during the ensuing milieu, the MP said, "I'm now ready for everything. I'm going to Accra and on my return, I'll show you". Mr Abibu said knowing that the MP had already threatened his elder brother in a similar vein; thought it wise to report the case to the Police against any eventuality.

Meanwhile, Mr Hayibor in a telephone conversation with the Ghana News Agency debunked the allegation and explained that he only went there to caution Abibu against the repeat of such comments in public in future.

"I told him categorically that, next time round, I would take him on. But if he interpreted that to mean threat of life, then I do not know", he clarified.

He said these and others were machinations orchestrate by his political opponents just to get at him but he was optimistic they would fail. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kwabena Antwi-Bosiako, Hohoe District Police Commander, who corroborated the story of Abibu's report, however said, his outfit had set out its investigative machinery in process to determine the veracity or otherwise of the matter.
