Saltpond (C/R), Sept 19, GNA - Mr George Kuntu
Blankson, Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman
East, has donated 10 computers to a number of junior
high schools in his constituency to enhance the study of
Information Communication Technology (ICT). The MP also donated one Laptop Computer to the
District Directorate of Education to improve record
keeping. The items worth about GH=A213,225 were bought from
the MPs' Common Fund. Making the donation at Saltpond on Tuesday, Mr
Blankson said the gesture was to support the schools in
the teaching of ICT, which had been made a compulsory
subject under the Education Reform Programme. "It is my wish to supply all the junior high schools in
the constituency with the item," the MP stated and urged
beneficiaries of the first supply to take very good care of
them to prolong their lifespan. Miss Vivian Etroo, District Director of Education, who
received the items, assured the MP that they would be
put to good use. Miss Etroo appealed to well-to-do citizens of the area
and parents to support schools with books and other
teaching and learning materials to enable the schools to
deliver. She noted that the success of the Education Reform
Programme would depend not only on government and
teachers, but also on parents and pupils and called on all
stakeholders to play their part effectively. Mr Kwame Nkrumah, Constituency Chairman of the
National Democratic Congress, expressed concern about
the 2007 Basic Education Certificate Examination results in
the District and appealed to parents to impress upon their
children to take their studies more seriously and appealed
to teachers to be devoted to their work.
