Accra, Sept.20, GNA -- The Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo, Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie-Komme on Wednesday expressed dismay at last Sunday's demolishing of parts of Kantamanto in Accra and expressed the hope that the Ministry of Harbours and Railways would deal promptly with the issue to avoid any confrontations.

In a statement, Mr Nii Tackie-Komme described the demolishing exercise by Bremark Ventures as inhuman.

Welcoming the assurance of the Minister of Harbours and Railways, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi to investigate circumstances leading to the leasing of the land, the MP said since the land was acquired for the purpose of railways, the Laws of the country stipulated that it should be returned to the original stool owners and was not to be sold to a private developer.

On Monday, the Minister of Harbours and Railways, Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi issued a statement in which he expressed shock and dismay at the demolishing exercise carried out at the Katamanto market area over the weekend by Bremark Ventures.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi said, "The exercise, which was carried out without the consent and approval of the Ministry responsible for Railways, is a clear and deliberate violation of a restraining order of a court served on Bremark Ventures."

A statement signed by Ms Cecilia Erzuah, Director of Human Resources, said the Ministry had through the Ghana Railways Company Limited filed a motion last Wednesday, September 13, 2006 freezing all action on the land in question.

It said, "The Ministry has incontrovertible proof that Bremark Ventures were served with a copy of the motion restraining it from undertaking the demolishing exercise.

"The Ministry, therefore, wishes to assure the general public and those affected by the illegal demolishing exercise that everything is being done to resolve the problems through the courts.=94
