The facility was officially opened on Wednesday, December 17, 2025
A Community Police Post and Peace Centre have been commissioned at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality, following facilitation by the Member of Parliament for Salaga-South, Hajia Zuwera, as part of efforts to strengthen local security and peacebuilding.
The facility was officially opened on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, by the Country Director of Coginta Ghana, Rev Father Clement, in the presence of municipal authorities, security officials and traditional leaders.
It was funded by Coginta Ghana and implemented through Choice Ghana.
The new infrastructure is expected to support community policing activities and provide a dedicated space for conflict prevention and peace engagements within Kafaba and surrounding communities.
Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive for East Gonja, Kassim Yazid Rabiu, acknowledged the role played by the Member of Parliament, Choice Ghana, and community leaders in bringing the project to completion.
He described the facility as a timely intervention and assured residents of the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring its effective use, adding that additional accommodation would be considered to support security personnel.
Rev Father Clement said the project was approved after concerns about peace and security in the area were presented by the Member of Parliament and Choice Ghana.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, particularly in the context of threats linked to violent extremism.
He also appealed to the community to take responsibility for maintaining the facility.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, Commissioner of Police Alhaji Mohammed Shiraz welcomed the addition of the police post, noting its relevance to community-based security approaches.
He encouraged residents to work closely with the police and reiterated the Service’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the municipality.
The Kafaba Wura expressed appreciation for the project and called for continued development support for the community, noting the importance of security infrastructure to local development.
The event was attended by the East Gonja Municipal Police Command, the Regional Police Commander, representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including Constituency Chairman Haruna Abdul Aziz, staff of the Municipal Assembly, students, traditional authorities, and residents of Kafaba.
