MP for Ketu South, Visits Denver

Denver, Colorado (Saturday, January 12, 2008) -- The Member of Parliament for Ketu South, the Honourable Albert Kwasi Zigah, recently visited Denver and met members of the Denver Chapter of NACC-NDC (North America Coordinating Council of NDC).

Interacting with party members at a meeting held in his honour on Saturday, January 12th, the NDC legislator conveyed goodwill messages from Leader and Flagbearer J.E. Atta Mills as well as the NDC Caucus in Parliament.

Before delving into the situation on the ground in Ghana, Hon. Zigah commended members for coming together in a faraway land in support of their chosen political party, a step he charactarized as valuable, active contribution to Ghana's maturing democratic culture.

Members were informed that the NDC stands a very good chance of forming the next government under the able leadership of Prof. Atta Mills.

The Hon. MP was, however, quick to caution that the leadership and foot soldiers must strenuously guard against complacency and a “fait accompli” attitude to both the general and presidential elections to be held in December, this year.

On relations between legislators of the majority NPP and especially, the main Opposition NDC, Hon. Zigah revealed that media reports often give the wrong impression that legislators from competing parties in Parliament have anything but cordial relations. He reminded, however, that on the rare occasions that the NDC main opposition has had to walk out of the People’s House in protest to what they consider the insensitivity of the NPP majority to alternative views on key national issues, such walk-outs have been as a result of disillusionment in the NPP’s attempts to pass unpopular and unwise bills.

Such walk-outs must, therefore, be seen as last resort protests against obvious tyranny of the NPP majority in Parliament.

Hon. Zigah stressed the need for unity and a high sense of purpose among NDC activists in North America. He exhorted members to mobilize financial and other support to assist the parent NDC run a good campaign.

He also invited those who can afford it, to come down to Ghana and help in pre-voting grassroots canvassing as well as help man polling stations on voting day.

The Honourable Member of Parliament met with leaders of the Rocky Mountain Ghana Association the following day.
