Apagya (Ash), Oct. 25, GNA - Mr Ernest Kofi Yakah, Member of Parliament for New Edubiase in the Adansi South District of Ashanti, has granted a two-year scholarship to cover all the educational expenses of 16-year-old Grace Owusu-Agyei, a second-year student of the Saint Monica's Secondary School at Asante-Mampong.

The gesture is in response to an appeal made on her behalf by Mr Kusi Appiah, assemblyman for Apagya, when Grace, a brilliant student from Apagya, who scored aggregate six in the BECE had to curtail her academic ambition because of financial constraints. The MP, who presented a bank draft of 500,000 cedis to the parents of Grace on Monday as the first part of the scholarship for the payment of her school fees for this term, encouraged the beneficiary to study very hard so that the money for her education taken from the common fund would not go waste.

Mr Yakah announced that part of his MPs common fund would also be used to sponsor three more pupils who scored high aggregates in this year's BECE in his constituency, as part of his efforts to improve the standard of education in the area.

He advised all students in the area to desist from immoral acts and instead concentrate on their studies, which he said was the only way of ensuring their future security.

The assemblyman on behalf of the parents of the beneficiary thanked the MP for the gesture.
