The absence of Major Derek Oduro (Rtd) Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North Constituency became the main issue OF discussion at the maiden meeting of the Nkoranza North District Assembly for the year at Busunya.

It began when Mr Kwaku Baffoe-Adamu, Assemblyman for Sikaa Electoral Area observed that the Parliamentarian has not been attending the Assembly’s Sessional Meetings.

He enquired from Mr Felix Osei-Asiedu, the Presiding Member why Major Oduro had not been attending meetings for some time now, considering the fact that “he is a member of the Assembly”.

The Presiding Member asked Mr Emmanuel Kungi, Nkoranza North District Coordinating Director, who is responsible for ensuring that invitation letters for such meetings are sent out to the members, to explain.

Responding, Mr Kungi promised to consult the Registry Department of the Assembly, which deals with correspondences, to find out whether it had sent an invitation to the MP as expected.

He urged the assembly members to exercise restraint and promised to institute measures to ensure that the Parliamentarian attends the next and subsequent meetings.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) later at Busunya on telephone, Major Oduro blamed the management of the assembly for failing to invite him to attend meetings.

He recalled an occasion when some assembly members called him on phone to inform him about an assembly meeting before he managed to attend, and expressed concern about the manner the management of the assembly was treating him.

Major Oduro said he is currently in home town, Dromakese, and if he had been invited there was no way he would refuse to attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, the management of the assembly has arranged a meeting with the Parliamentarian to resolve any issue preventing him from responding to the assembly’s invitations to attend meetings.
