MP’s son shoots NPP women’s organiser son

Nana Kwame, son of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tain in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Gyan Tutu Agyemang, last Sunday evening reportedly shot one eye of the son of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Women’s Organizer’s son, Eric Obour, 24 years old, at Badu.

The incident, which is said to have happened between the hours of 6:30 and 7pm on that fateful day, is causing tension in the town. Narrating the circumstances surrounding the incident, an eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE that whenever the MP, Gyan Tutu Agyemang, is in town he fires warning shots every night before he goes to bed with intent to scare away thieves because his television set had been stolen before.

So last week, the eyewitness intimated, he loaded his gun and placed it in his bedroom and travelled.

The son, Nana Kwame, 27, without his father’s knowledge, reportedly took the gun, mistakenly pressed the trigger and shot one eye of Eric Obour. DAILY GUIDE source said Eric was relaxing in the company of other friends near the MP’s house when the bullets ripped through the gate of the building to hit Eric’s eye. He was quickly rushed to the Badu Health Centre for treatment.

Though Nana Kwame was arrested and detained at the Wenchi Police Station overnight, he was released the following day.

When the paper tried to check from the Wenchi Municipal Commander, DSP Derrick Baa, he confirmed the incident and said Kwame had been charged for negligently causing harm and processed for court.

Meanwhile, he said the MP had sent the boy to Accra for further treatment. The municipal police chief said the MP kept the gun in his room and had travelled to Sunyani when the incident happened.

The police officer indicated that the gun is a licensed one and so the docket would be sent to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.
