MP's undertake clean-up Accra

Accra, Jan. 24, GNA- To ensure the fulfilment of President John Atta Mills's initiative of keeping Ghana clean within the first 100 days of his rule, MP's in the Accra/Tema metropolis have undertaken a clean-up exercise to get rid of filth in their various constituencies.

The clean-up exercise undertaken in collaboration with zoomlion Ghana, was code named: "keep Ghana Clean".

The exercise which would run throughout the year would be extended to the other regions and include distilling of drains, sweeping and the collection of refuse.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Fritz Bafour, MP for Ablekuma South and Mr. Jonathan Nii Tackie Komme, MP for odododiodo said being a fishing community and noted for malaria, cholera and typhoid fever, there was the need to rid the community of filth to ensure good health foe the people.

"Being the heart of the city, there was the need for us to get involved as MP'S so that together with members of our communities, we would fight these preventive diseases" At the Madina/Abokobi constituency, Alhaji Amadu Sologho complained of the lack of dumping sites to dispose of their refuse and called on the various communities to participate in the exercise "so that we can be in good heath to achieve the middle income status, set for ourselves".
