Mamponteng (Ash), June 2, GNA - Nana Asante Frempong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre has presented 100 dual-desks costing 15 million cedis to the circuit centres of the Kwabre district education directorate to be distributed to the various junior secondary schools in the district.

He also presented a cheque for five million cedis to the directorate in response to an appeal, made by the assembly's education sub-committee for funds to organise quiz competitions at the basic school level this year.

Making the presentation at a short ceremony at Mamponteng on Tuesday, Nana Asante Frempong said the money was from his share of the MP's district assemblies' common fund (DACF).

The MP noted that, education is the key to the development and progress of every nation and the district was no exception and called on stakeholders to contribute their quota to supplement government's efforts to promote quality education in the country.

Nana Asante Frempong said it was not the first time he was using his share of the fund to support education and that he had helped in the promotion of teachers training programmes and also helped in honouring teachers in the district.

He asked the directorate to make the necessary arrangements to send the desks to the various centres for distribution to the schools to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

Mr Richard Kwame Nsiah, Assistant Director of Education in charge of finance and administration received the desks and the cheque and expressed his appreciation for the gesture.

He was optimistic that what the MP has done will go a long way to promote education in the district and hoped that he will continue to support education in the district.

Mr Nsiah said the Kwabre district assembly has also contributed immensely towards education in the form of infrastructure facilities and other educational programmes, which call for recommendation.

Nana Frimpong Manso, Kwabre East constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) commended the MP for his focus and support for education and urged him to do more to raise the level of education in the district.
