MP to establish school in Kpalime Traditional Area

Kaira (V/R), March 10, GNA- Dr Samuel Kwame Ampofo, Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, on Sunday said he has set aside 20,000 Ghana Cedis of his share of the MP Common Fund for the establishment of a senior high school in the Kpalime Traditional Area in the South Dayi District.

He said the absence of such facility in the area was affecting the development of education in the area.

Dr Ampofo was speaking at the first speech and prize giving day of Kaira basic school in the district.

He urged parents to invest in the education of their children to enable them acquire knowledge and skills needed for national development.

Dr Ampofo asked students from the area to work hard to enable them to benefit from a scholarship scheme he instituted for second cycle students in the constituency.

The MP said he would distribute a quantity of computers and television sets to all basic schools in the constituency.

Mr. Joseph Agadzi, Head teacher of the school, said the lack of parental care, patronising of video centres by school children and the lackadaisical attitude of some teachers were affecting teaching and learning in the area.

He expressed regret that many school children were engaging in fishing at Dzemeni in the area to the detriment of their education. Mr John Ahorsu, Aseembly member for the area, urged the community to motivate teachers who have accepted posting to the area to enable them give of their best.

He appealed to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to take a second look at the salary structure of teachers in the country. Mr Thalamus Doe, Executive Director of Rural Progress, an Accra based non-governmental organization, inaugurated a 100-member School Environmental Club for the Kaira basic school and appealed to the community to pay particular attention to environmental hygiene. Seventy pupils who excelled in various disciplines were presented with certificates and book, while the Parent Teachers Association also presented special awards to teachers who were dedicated to their work.
