Tatale (N/R), Jan 27, GNA - Mr. John Jabare Bennam, Member of Parliament for Zabzugu/Tatale, has said he would introduce a scholarship scheme for students in the teacher and nurses training colleges in the area as a way of developing human resources in the district. "It is pathetic that although the district has a polyclinic and a health centre at Zabzugu and Tatale respectively it does not have a single Ghanaian doctor neither can we boast of well staffed schools in the district," he said.

Mr Bennam told the GNA in an interview that apart from supporting students who would enrol in such training institutions, incentive packages would also be instituted for other professionals from other districts who accept posting to the district. He said he had arranged with some non-governmental organizations that had expressed interest in supporting the scholarship scheme. Mr Bennam said he would encourage farmers to form viable agricultural groups that would enable them to attract financial support from both the government and non-governmental organizations. He said he would use his share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund to improve on water facilities in Zabzugu and would liaise with the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to introduce small town water projects in Tatale.

"The only way we can help eradicate illiteracy, poverty and ignorance is by empowering our women to take up responsible positions that will impact positively on our children." He said he would also work hard to improve on the road network in the district particularly the Yendi/Zabzugu/Tatale road. Mr Bennam appealed to all stakeholders irrespective of their political party affiliations to support him to achieve his goals that are geared towards the development of the district.
