The Member of Parliament for Akrofuom Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Joseph Azumah, has announced that he will not contest the 2028 parliamentary elections if the damaged roads in the area are not constructed as promised.

The MP again said the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections was largely built on a firm pledge to repair the deteriorating roads across the constituency.

He added that failing to honour that promise would betray the trust the electorate placed in the party.

“Road construction was a central campaign promise before the 2024 elections. We cannot go back to the people in 2028 without fulfilling it,” he said.

Azumah also highlighted the frustration of residents who have endured years of neglect under the previous NPP administration, which failed to tar major roads in the district.

He noted that the poor state of roads is unbearable and has severely affected transportation for motorists and farmers, leading to post-harvest losses and reduced incomes, particularly in his constituency.

“The entire district has not seen a single tarred road. The situation is unbearable for our people,” he lamented, warning that without urgent action, the party risks losing the seat in 2028.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam Azumah on February 17, 2026, he cited a recent visit to the Minister of Roads and Highways with traditional leaders from the constituency to negotiate for road projects.

While the road works have been captured in the government’s budget, he stressed that mere announcements will not satisfy constituents.

“I am advocating strongly for my people, but if after all these efforts the roads are not constructed, I cannot in good conscience ask them to vote for me again,” he stated.

Azumah described the road issue as the most pressing concern of his constituents, insisting that visible construction is essential.

He emphasised that the NDC’s political future in Akrofuom hinges on delivering this promise, calling it a “make-or-break” matter ahead of the 2028 elections.
