MPs call on Techiman Traditional Council

Techiman (B/A), April 13, GNA - Mr Alex Kyeremeh and Mr Simons Addai, the two National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament for Techiman North and Techiman South Constituencies, respectively, have paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw IV and his Divisional Chiefs and Elders to brief them on some parliamentary proceedings.

The visit also offered them the opportunity to express their gratitude to the entire citizenry of Techiman for giving them their mandate in Election 2004.

Mr Kyeremeh said it had been their concern to critically examine the challenges that faced the Techiman Municipality in order that they could solicit assistance to keep the Municipality growing. He, therefore, appealed to the traditional rulers to unite and rally behind them to promote the development of the area.

Mr Addai commended the entire people of Ghana for the peaceful manner they conducted Election 2004 describing it as violence-free. He announced that they were putting the necessary structure in place for the Government to construct the Techiman - Kumasi road as well as to implement the Tanoso Irrigation Project and to continue with the extension of the Techiman Market.

The two MPs emphasised that the development of Techiman could only be achieved if the people buried their political differences and forged ahead in unity to initiate projects that would enable them to improve upon their lots.

Nana Oseadeayie Asa Ackompanin, Kyidomhene and Krobohene of Techiman Traditional Area, urged the MPs to establish cordial relationship with the Municipal Chief Executive as well as the members of District Assembly and the Traditional Council in order to move the area forward.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw expressed his appreciation of the efforts of the members of the various political parties for making the general election in the area successful.

He enumerated a number of problems militating against the Traditional Council, which included the lack of vehicles and the failure of the Municipal Assembly to allocate some part of the resources from the Techiman Market towards its upkeep.

The Omanhene asked the two MPs to work hand in hand with the Government and focus their attention towards the development of Techiman and that they should not think that they were with the opposition as that could have adverse effect on the development of Techiman.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw urged them to place a high premium on education and arrange a number of activities that would enhance education in Techiman, adding that they should create job avenues for the unemployed youth.
