MPs common fund not for solving individual or family problems

Bomfa-Achiase (Ash), July 29, GNA - An official of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has said the Member of Parliament's (MP's) share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund was not meant for solving family or individual financial problems. ''The fund was created for MPs to provide services and some basic amenities that would benefit the entire constituency," Mr Kofi Amoakohene, Ejisu-Juaben District Director of NCCE, has said. Interacting with some communities and basic schools in the District, Mr Amoakohene expressed regret that a wrong perception had been created about the use of the MP's fund.

''The result is that some constituents persistently saddle the MPs with the payment of their wards and children's school fees and hospital bills among other things.''

Mr Amoakohene stressed the need for the people to learn to solve their own personal problems and leave the MPs to concentrate on their parliamentary duties.

Mrs Amma Konadu Afram, Research Officer of the District NCCE, said the Commission was forming civic education clubs in basic schools as part of measures to educate the youth on their civic rights and responsibilities.

She said four clubs had been inaugurated at the Ejisu Experimental School, Ejisu Catholic and Besease Junior Secondary Schools. Nana Danso Mensah, an Assistant Field Officer of the NCCE, called on students to give equal attention to the study of the Constitution just as they did for other subjects on the school curriculum.
