Editor-in-Chief of the Crusading Guide newspaper Kweku Baako Junior has described the corruption allegation against Members of Parliament by Professor Stephen Adei as “outrageous” and “explosive”.
The former GIMPA boss in a recent speech in Accra described 8 out of every 10 Ghanaian politicians as “glorified thieves”.
“The other day somebody asked me a question and I was as so shocked. The person asked whether I gave bribe to Parliament for them to pass GIMPA’s law. Not knowing that now if you want Parliament to pass anything else, not only do you bribe the committee, but after they have gotten their share, they ask you where is our ‘lap top’? In other words; you haven’t made provision for our girlfriends. It’s time now in Ghana for us to rise; and it for us to lay the foundations of righteousness in the next generation. Train your children to be servant-leaders wherever they are.
“…At least 8 in 10 politicians in Ghana are glorified thieves, although almost every need of theirs is met by the state. We have to stop it,” he said.
But members of the House have described the comments as baseless and an attempt by the former lecturer to gain cheap popularity. They have threatened to drag him before the disciplinary committee of the House.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Baako told Samson Lardy on Newsfile on Joy FM Saturday that Parliament must necessarily invite the academician to substantiate his claims.
“He has an impeccable record and an excellent academician but the comments were quiet explosive.
“It’s going to be very difficult to defend such a thing… if he is dragged before parliament, he should be able to present something of evidential value to support what he said.
“To suggest that they take bribes for their girlfriends is a very outrageous thing to say,” he stated.
