NPP Member of Parliament for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah, and NDC Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on Tuesday hurled insults at each other on live television over allegations of corruption and projects spearheaded by the current government.
Speaking on UTV's morning show, the Deputy Trade Minister, Carlos Ahenkorah, who seemed unpleased with Akandoh's comments lashed out and fired tirades at his colleague lawmaker.
According to Mr. Ahenkorah, the NDC's constant criticism of the government and their failure to recognise good policies such as the much-touted Free SHS, smacks of hypocrisy and pretense.
Reacting to the Deputy Minister's statement, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh described the former's claims as 'blackmailing' stressing how the Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson, admitted in an interview with Ghanaweb that her outfit is not constructing meaningful dams due to money allocated to her ministry.
Commenting on the 1D1F, Mintah Akandoh said the dams 'supposedly' built in the Northern Region under the initiative are fabricated stories.
Carlos who didn't take the comment lightly told Akandoh to "respect himself because he is not his class." Both figures traded insults saying unpleasant words against each other.
Despite attempts by the host to calm the situation, the two MPs kept on jabbing each other with Carlos saying “what you are doing is rough tactics, if you don’t respect yourself, I will also not respect you. I am talking and you are also talking, what do you know that you will talk back at me? You are being unruly, if you want to express your opinion, wait till I am done talking”.
Akandoh who got irritated by his statement said, “Carlos people are watching you on TV, massage your ego on live TV."
Carlos also responded saying, "I will massage your ego instead, respect my friend, you don’t respect anything. NDC members just talk anyhow. You cannot talk when I talk, you are arrogant more than anyone."
The host of the show, Tweneboa Kodua who couldn’t take the heat anymore expressed his disappointment at both MPs and advised them to act maturely since they were on live TV.
