It is a bit difficult for Members of Parliament (MPs) without ministerial portfolios to be corrupted, New Patriotic Party (NPP) financier and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyepong believes.
“It will be a very difficult for a parliamentarian who is not probably a minister who has a budget to be corrupted….it is difficult because you are not working…..you are relying on your salary from parliament so you cannot be corrupted”, he explained.
“I am not saying ministers are corrupt…..those who have budgets probably Chief Executives, people with cooperation [and] those who have budgets to spend they can be corrupt”, he explained further.
Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong spoke on GHOne’s State of Affairs program during a one-on-one interview with host Nana Aba Anamoah.
According to him, the likely way for a lawmaker to become corrupt is when he is a minister or deputy minister of state.
“If an MP becomes a minister and he has opportunity to spend money on his budget probably you can say he is corrupt”
The controversial lawmaker who is accusing past appointees under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of being corrupt, is worried the present administration is refusing to haul them before the court.
He is of the view that the delay in prosecuting them could lead most of them shielding evidence and getting away with the crimes they perpetrated which have cost the country in many ways.
