Former MTN FA Cup winners, New Edubiase United did not show up for their preliminary round game away to Sekondi XI Wise on Saturday.

Match officials, the hosts and a few fans made their way to the Essipong Stadium but the Bekwai-based club made no appearance.

Per regulation, the match referee followed formalities and subsequently called it off in consultation with the match commissioner

According to Edubiase’s bankroller Abdul Salam Yakubu, the club had been of the impression that the game was to come off on Sunday and only got informed they had missed pre-match meeting when the team was preparing to leave its base Saturday morning.

“We [Edubiase] knew our game was on Sunday against the same XI Wise we had faced in the Division One League in midweek.

“We prepared towards that and were ready to leave for camp in Takoradi around 10am on Saturday when a call came through that Edubiase had failed to turn up for pre-match meeting,” he explained.

Abdul Salam added: “This is definitely not intentional and we have communicated it to the FA Cup organizers. There was a miscommunication.

“We have discussed it with the authorities so by the close of the day Monday, there will be a date fixed for the match. We will put in more efforts for a date to be fixed.”
